Gerald and his wife Pamela who is Associate Dean in the Nursing Faculty at the University of Manitoba, are the parents of Melanie, a Public Health Nurse, and Marcie, a Political Science student at the University of Syracuse. Melanie is married to Steve Sobering and have recently become proud parents of their son Liam. Following in Gerald’s and Pamela’s footsteps, Melanie, Marcie and Steve are active volunteers.
“Everything I’ve learned about hard work, I learned from my Dad”, says Gerald Hawranik - and Gerald has worked hard to help build our community.
Born and raised in Whitemouth, Gerald and his wife Pamela have always rolled up their sleeves to make a difference in the Lac du Bonnet area. Together they created the Beausejour and Area Food Bank - the first rural food bank in all of Canada.
For the past 22 years, Gerald has provided hundreds of hours of free legal services to local charities from his office in Beausejour, and more recently, Lac du Bonnet.
When Gerald sees a need in our community, he doesn’t make excuses, he finds a way to help.
An active member of his church, he is a founder of the Brokenhead River Community Foundation [more on the BRCF], as well as Beauserve Homes, a teaching residence for mentally challenged adults.
When the town of Beausejour needed a new sports facility for our young athletes, Gerald ran for council to make sure that it was done, and done right.
Gerald brought his business experience to town council to encourage local investment in local business to create jobs.
